JP/NASA Mission Logo : Deep Space Optical Communications (DSOC)

Logo Design · Visual Identity

I had the opportunity to design a logo for NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) Deep Space Optical Communications (DSOC) project, an initiative exploring laser-based communication across vast distances in space.

The challenge was to create a distinctive, modern identity that moved beyond traditional NASA mission-patch aesthetics while capturing the technology and ambition behind the project.

Beginning with hand-drawn concepts, I developed a visual identity incorporating Earth, spacecraft, orbital movement, and a laser communication beam into a unified mark. The design balances scientific storytelling with recognizable typography and dimensional details.

The final logo was adopted by the DSOC team and featured on mission apparel worn by JPL personnel, bringing the identity from initial sketches into real-world use.
